Vision Pro: Apple’s New Reality

Apple Vision Pro, the new mixed reality headset from Apple, boasts of some groundbreaking features that could potentially revolutionize the design of the metaverse and shape the future of Web3. Designed as a ‘revolutionary spatial computer,’ Vision Pro blends digital content with the physical world and has opened a new avenue for Apple into immersive digital technology. It puts Apple in direct competition with existing players in the market such as Microsoft’s Hololens, Meta’s Oculus, and Magic Leap.

A Revolutionary Spatial Computer

The Innovative Features of Vision Pro

The Vision Pro’s standout offerings include a novel input system, a three-dimensional interface operating system known as VisionOS, and ‘EyeSight,’ a feature that allows users to see others while also displaying the wearer’s eyes, mitigating the estrangement often experienced with headset usage. Notably, the device can support over a hundred Apple Arcade games, thus hinting at its potential for providing vast, immersive gaming experiences.

VisionOS and EyeSight: An Immersive Leap Forward

With VisionOS, users can interact with a spatial environment, navigating it intuitively in three dimensions. EyeSight, on the other hand, brings a level of social comfort to the use of the headset, allowing users to maintain eye contact while immersing themselves in the digital environment.

Apple’s Entrance into the Metaverse

The Transformation of Digital Experiences

Despite Apple CEO Tim Cook’s initial skepticism about the metaverse and immersive digital technology, the launch of Vision Pro demonstrates Apple’s commitment to shaping the future of immersive digital experiences. Apple consciously refrains from using terms like “augmented reality” or “metaverse” in its marketing materials, suggesting a focus on defining its own vision of the immersive digital future.

The Creation of Dynamic Digital Avatars

The metaverse is also being transformed by Apple’s development of digital personas. The Vision Pro uses machine learning and front sensors to create dynamic digital avatars that accurately mirror a user’s facial and hand movements.

Vision Pro’s Impact on Entertainment: The Disney Partnership

In a strategic move to expand its influence, Apple has forged a partnership with The Walt Disney Company. This alliance enables users to engage with Disney sports, shows, and movies in an unprecedented immersive manner, effectively rekindling Disney’s interest in the metaverse.

Vision Pro’s Price Tag: A Barrier or Catalyst?

Though Vision Pro’s transformative potential is evident, its current price tag of $3,500 might restrict its initial reach to early adopters. However, industry observers view its launch as a significant technological leap that’s expected to impact multiple industries in the future.

The Vision Pro’s Potential Influence on the Metaverse and NFTs

Enhancing the Metaverse Experience

The Vision Pro, unveiled at the WWDC 2023, promises to significantly influence the metaverse and the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs), much like CryptoPunks’ impact on the NFT space. The mixed reality headset, capable of serving both augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) experiences, forms a potent platform for applications within the metaverse.

Facilitating Crypto Integration

The headset is also expected to raise awareness and acceptance of crypto. The Vision Pro might integrate crypto, allowing for in-app purchases in Vision Pro apps using cryptocurrencies. It could help normalize crypto transactions, leading to increased cryptocurrency adoption.

Apple’s Vision Pro - Redefining the Metaverse and Web3

In conclusion, Apple’s Vision Pro VR headset, like CryptoPunks in the NFT realm, might not be the first of its kind, but it definitely holds the potential to transform the metaverse and the understanding of digital assets. It is anticipated to act as a catalyst, bringing the metaverse and crypto into mainstream consciousness and contributing to their growth. As such, Apple’s entrance into the metaverse with the Vision Pro paves the way for a new age of innovative digital experiences.

🔭Top Highlights of the Week

1. It's lawsuit season🤦‍♀️

Image

The SEC, led by Gary Gensler, has been targeting centralized crypto exchanges with lawsuits, with Binance and Coinbase (again) on the receiving end this week. The SEC's claiming

👉 Solana, Polygon, and Cardano, among other altcoins, are securities

👉 CZ and Binance were commingling customer funds, although CZ denies all allegations

Our takeaway: The market's so used to these moves from the SEC at this point that despite the immediate downtrend after the news, it almost instantly recovered. The solution is obvious, yet clear-cut regulations don't seem to be the SEC's priority for the time being.

2. Your loss is my gain

Image

While the SEC's ongoing war against centralized exchanges is taking a toll on these exchanges, DEXs are benefitting greatly from this.

👉 Uniswap (on both Arbitrum and Ethereum) and PancakeSwap saw a staggering 444% surge in trading volume in the 48 hours following SEC suing Binance

👉 This translates to roughly $800 million in absolute numbers

Our takeaway: While the SEC's attitude towards CEXs remains worrisome, the fact that the funds only moved across wallets and not out of crypto demonstrates the trust in digital assets.

3. Some breathing space😅

Image

With the memecoin frenzy dampening in the past week, Ethereum saw its network congestion revert back to normal. And a positive side effect of this is that gas prices on the network have gone down, creating more opportunities for a larger variety of Ethereum use cases.

Our takeaway: Memecoins usually do see periods of dramatic highs followed by uneventful lows. But the Ethereum network, with its endless spectrum of use cases, continues to remain a strong performer in the space.
